‘I’ll say Mr. X has got lots of fans and he is better actor than Vikram .For example here his batch too has less members in this debate.’ Mr. X fan’s opinion.
I just beckoned Bhaskar to keep quiet and then replied, ‘Yeah, we would like to be the Pandavas.’
‘You mean to say, we are Kauravas?’
‘I didn’t say that’ , I replied.
They understood my tact. Tact is making a point without making an enemy!
‘Always the winner is that batch, which has got majority. So we are the ruling party and your batch is like an opposition party’, Mr.X fan’s reply.
‘Yeah, but if we take the reports it is Vikram who is ruling the box office. So naturally you will be in opposition side.’
‘Mr.X gave many hits than your Vikram’
‘I oppose. If you take the average it is Vikram who is leading because someone gives to hits out of 40 movies it's not a big thing. It is always he who hold good records who gives 3 hits out of 5!’
Mr.X fans became speechless but still continued, ‘Mr.X never failed but this is Vikram’s second innings. He was doing side roles before.’
‘May be but he is not great who never falls but he is great who gets back up whenever he falls. Why don’t you take Rahul Dravid? Even being highly talented he was out of the team due to politics but he bounced back with double spirit.’
‘Vikram is just like 5 pages where Mr. X is a book.’
‘May be, but always 5 pages are much better than the book, which has 2 pages. And of course even life is a book. If the pages are empty then nobody will read. Instead it’s better to be 5 pages, which are written!’
‘Mr.X has done much more movies than Vikram. So he is better actor.’
‘As I said quantity is not important but quality is important. And through the awards one can be considered as best actor or not. If I am not mistaken , Mr.X has not got many awards as Vikram has got. And as per my knowledge he has got awards for Sethu, Kasi and Gemini. Many awards he has got I feel.’
Now Bhaskar added his voice, ‘And again this year he’ll get as his next movie is with Bala.’
I was quite surprised by this. I remembered about Pithamagan poster.
‘Mr.X has got an award for (Shalini was the heroine and Illayaraja was music director)’
‘Yeah, but it was non – deserving. I think there were no other nominations. Frankly speaking, go and watch the original version Aniyatriprav in Malayalam. Tamil version was not even a 5% of Aniyatriprav.
‘Vikram is following the way of Kamal Hassan. Two newspapers are gossiping about it. I mean in a negative way, especially after Saamy.’ , Now Nagraj came up with that opinion.
I understood what he was saying and replied, ‘Look, Nagraj! I have a pretty good idea of how the media works as I am working in the same field. Media survives on one hot headline after another. It’s about moving from one scandal to another. It is about interesting magazine covers. Yes, a majority of the media has. If they have a done to pick with a particular person, they’ll fire from someone else’s shoulder, what’s sad is that even the most absurd piece of information becomes the truth when it’s flashed prominently as a newspaper headline. What’s even more sad is that people have complete faith in the written word. So, it’s absolutely rubbish to believe those rumours, which are spread out of jealousy. There is no medicine for it.’
‘Whatever it is, Mr.X is the next superstar!’
‘Don’t compare him to Superstar. Rajni was not any star son or son of any producer. At least Rajini had Balachandar with him. If you come to that point as per my knowledge Vikram is not a star son or did not even have any God father. Whatever he achieved so far, he has achieved by his own like Ajit. In fact Ajit is far better than Mr.X when it comes to acting. I don’t want to argue or compare more. Just want to say one thing. Just let Mr.X do one movie like Indian or Vaali or Sethu or Bombay that are with different subjects or doesn’t stick to any hero’s particular image. Then I will agree that he is a better actor.”
Mr.X fans did not have any answer for it. Obviously after almost half an hour debate, we were able to make them speechless. Still sometimes I wonder why I wholeheartedly supported Vikram on that day. Come on, I was not his fan or had not seen his single movie. Still why? In fact Nagraj was my close friend than Bhaskar, still I supported Bhaskar.
It was not just sympathy but something else. Which is that power convinced my conscious to support a person whom I didn’t even know?
May be my attitude to support the truth, who knows? One more unusual thing was I was almost there for one month but did not go to watch neither Dhool nor Saamy. Whether I really didn’t have the time to watch it or I was not interested? I think second one was the reason. I was not at all interested in watching a movie of Vikram when there was Vikram mania all round me. Whether I was least bothered or blind? Fact was it is little difficult for any stars to take place in my heart, as long back it was closed!
