Part 10: Fate’s cruel twist in the form of a birthday gift!

I can still remember our school day where I had to perform the role of a lady! Ooops! Yes. It was so embarrassing but yet challenging one. Only we three students had to perform. It was a story of two women and I had to play the role of daughter in law who has modern thoughts. My one more friend had to do the role my mother in law who always try to degrade her daughter in law I mean me, in that play. The story revolves around how I fail her plans and gives her fitting replies and pull her legs. The story was quite interesting.

It was none other than our teachers who decided to play that drama by boys instead of girls, as girls were only doing mythological plays so far in the history of our high school.

So it was really challenging one but yet we accepted it.

When we were at the green room, Jalandhar Sir came there and saw me. First he could not recognise me. He thought I was some lady. Then later he came to me and told, ‘Hari, while going back to home if you go in this dress then surely someone will kidnap you. Beware! Okay?’

“Oh, Sir! Please stop it’, I requested. I was laughing a lot.

Shocking thing was, the girls in our school found me much more attractive and prettier than anyone of them. Now please don’t think that they were like beauty queens of Africa. I must say one line here if you really want to see the beauty and the beautiful girls then you should come to Mangalore! The girls of Mangalore are much more beautiful than any parts in the world. After all Ishwarya Rai is the best example, right?

But why Ishwarya Rai?? Even her smile is plastic smile. I am the happiest person that the most beautiful lady in this world is near to me .Can anybody come to even a 10%of my mom’s beauty? Never!

Let me come back to the play. Much more embarrassing moment for me was I had to accept all those competitions’ prizes in that lady get- up! Oh my god, if I remember those moments I would start to roll down and laugh.

The sari, which I wore, was silky one and it was lengthy. It was giving me big problem while walking and I had to go to stage many time to receive the prizes. If I try to walk perfectly then sari would slip.

It was the funniest and irritating situation for me in my life. At last I had to lift the sari and had to hold in my hands many times but still if I do so I was not able to receive the prizes. Aiyo…Only I know how much I had to struggle to handle that situation. I am gut sure that everyone out there might have laughed a lot after watching my circus.

Let me come back to the present world. Remembering that moment we laughed a lot on that day. We ( Jalandhar Sir and I) had tea together.

‘Hari, I think I got to go now.’ Jalandhar Sir got up from his seat.

‘Thanks for coming, Sir. When I could meet you again?’

Till the date I don’t know why I’d asked that question.

‘You can come at any time, Hari. Whenever you get time feel free to come to my home. Okay?’

Our Sir has got a lovely wife and very cute kid named Mayoor. It was an arranged love marriage. Their love story was very nice one .Once he had shared with me. His wife was none other than one of his student.

Even after their marriage everyday he wife used to come to school then she would mix up with other students. Both husband and wife would play Basket ball along with students once the school gets over. And then later they would get back to home. Everyday it was such a wonderful experience for other students to play with them.

‘Yeah. Sure I will meet you, once I’ m back from Bangalore. I’ll be really very happy if I could share this happiest moment of my student life as with my Kannada professor but he is not here at the moment. At least once I’m back from Bangalore I can share those moments with you’.

‘That would be really great. After all how can I forget my first meet with you? You were petty nervous, nah, that day at Staff room?’

‘Yeah. But the way you looked at me that day and that smile, shake hand, hug. I may never forget it, Sir; you broke the distance between us!’

‘I’m getting late, Hari. You come back from Bangalore and meet me as soon as possible okay.. Don’t forget. By the by 17th is my birthday. Why don’t you come on that day? I’ll be waiting for you!’

‘Yeah, sure!’ I assured.

Before leaving he shook my hand.

Something was seriously wrong somewhere! I could smell it! What was that..??

Then I noticed a mark of bite on Sir’s right hand.

‘What’s that mark? What happened?’

He looked at that mark and replied, ‘Oh. That’s nothing. Yesterday night a dog came to bite our pet. I went to rescue our pet dog by holding its hand and chased that dog away. When I was revealing our puppy by its bite, I got a small bite by that dog. That’s it. Nothing to worry. I took our puppy for the treatment. He is okay now.’

‘Did you take any injection?’

‘For what, Hari? After all it’s just a small bite. Don’t worry. I took medicines. Uff. It’s getting late. Bye for now .Come to meet me, Okay? I’ll wait for your come back.’ He waved his hands towards me.

‘Okay, Sir. I will! I’ll meet and share all those moments of Bangalore function with you Take care of yourself.’ Though he had left before two minutes, I was just waving my hands. I had decided that I would give the first copy of my book to Jalandhar Sir and wanted to see his expression. Of course that would be on his birthday!

‘I will come to meet you on your birthday, Sir! Without fail. Wherever I am, I’ll come to wish you on your birthday!’ I decided.

That night when I was traveling to Bangalore I was just thinking what to present on his birthday as a gift.

But fate was on a full swing to play its cruel twist!
