‘Hari, just tell from where you have got those 3 characters? It’s just amazing! I couldn’t believe that you can come up with such a plot. I was just speechless. I can never forget those 3 roles of Priyatam, Mridula and Shanti. Simply outstanding, such dream roles. Did you fall in love with somebody? Even if you say, ‘no’ I cannot believe it. It’s so lovely. Fantastic!’
I just looked at Dinesh and replied, ‘Yes, Dinesh .I fell in love.’
‘With whom?’, Dinesh asked curiously.
‘With those three roles. I just love all the three of them. I just fell in love with them. That’s why may be’, I said
‘I understood but one thing. I still cannot digest. How did you give such a tragic end to Priyatam and Mridula’s love story? Oh my god. While the reading last five pages. I couldn’t control myself. Just tears were coming out. I really felt very bad for him, such things should not happen to such a nice person like Priyatam. It’s really hard who are the inspirations for such roles?’
I explained everything to him and then said, ‘Priyatam cannot exist in real life, Dinesh. It’s not so easy to be him (Priyatam). Sometimes, I feel he is my inner soul. Can you remember the last lines, which he says to Shanti before leaving the city, ‘We should smile, my friend. We should smile! It’s not the question of our choice. It’s an attempt to live! Problems are thousands but not showing a single one out of them to anyone is called life! We can pretend as weeping, controlling, joking and being happy. Can you try to smile, keeping a big sorrow in your life, my friend? This is what I am trying!’
‘Yes, Hari! I cannot forget those lines. Till the end you never disclose the fact that Priyatam has faced so many difficulties. What an amazing character he is!!! And how Shanti should feel when she comes to know the tragedy about his life. Those were completely heart touching.’
‘I agree with you, Dinesh. It’s quite hard. Whatever Shanti feels were exactly my feelings. If I come to know that if my friend has struggled hard in his life and finds that he is still struggling, I may say those lines. In the story Shanti comes to know about Priyatam only in last few weeks and she spends only few minutes with him as a friend but he leaves such an impression, which was very hard for others to leave. That’s why we say to get place in one’s heart; we do not need years of togetherness or hours of closeness but few seconds of kindness, a few moments of friendliness, a few minutes of truthfulness! When one person has all these qualities he looks like our own, even though he is stranger. And Priyatam has all these qualities and that’s why he becomes very close to readers heart. The unexpected tragic end and the secrecy make the whole plot unforgettable. But again there is not any Priyatam in real world. He is only in my imagination, a dream role. Again there is not any Shanti. She is only in my vision. Mridula, of course, in the story itself she goes beyond reader’s hand. A lovely wife who takes everyone’s breathe away by her character.’
‘One question, Hari .Don‘t come to the conclusion that there cannot be Priyatam, Shanti and Mridula in todays life. There are but one among crores’
‘One among crores? May be one in 10crores. I’m not sure. Have you ever met such persons in your life so far?’
‘So far not, Hari but tell me what you will do if you meet such persons in your life?’, Dinesh re-questioned.
‘Me? Haha, So funny. You know me very well I’ll start to search him. .Do you think that anybody can stand unto to my expectation Do you think can anybody test my patience? I may sink in the depth of on ocean of people but may never find anyone.’
‘Why do you think in such a way? I mean in a negative way’
‘It’s not negative, Dinesh. That’s practical, Dinesh. Bitter fact!’
‘May be, I know, Hari because you deal with at least 100-200 people in a day. You judge them will but tell me if you meet someone who is exactly as your expectation then what you will do?’
‘Let us see but leave about meeting I don’t think I may even get to see a picture of such person .Can I?’
‘Mm, If God wishes nobody can do anything.’
‘Nenzi tudikkudu Gemini Gemini.’ Suddenly when we heard the song I was surprised. We came to know that the song was coming from the next classroom. Few of our classmates were doing the dance rehearsal. I don’t know why I was getting irritated whenever I heard that O Podu song. This time too, something happened. I immediately stepped inside the other room. Dance rehearsal was going on full swing. I directly went near the tape recorder and just took the audiocassettes cover in my hand. I just had a look on the cover. I wanted to see the movie’s name. I found it was Gemini. That’s it. I directly switched off the tape recorder.
Everyone was shocked .My friend Lokesh came near to me and asked, ‘Hey, Hari! What happened? Why did you off it?’
‘What else I should do? Was it a song? Totally rubbish! I feel like my head is gonna burst if I listen to the song anymore. Why did you keep the volume so high? Please for god’s sake don’t play it when I am here. I’m moving within few seconds thereafter you can play if you want.’
‘Hey, come on! It is such a lovely song, superb! This year’s biggest hit song. Vikram’s Movie. Super actor he is! You must see his Sethu movie’
Lokesh tried to give lecture about him.
‘Listen, Lokesh. Whoever he is, I don’t have to do anything with him. I’m least bothered whether it’s a hit song or a flop song. I just don’t like it. That’s it! You know me very well. Please don’t take it into your heart. I just told what I felt. Don’t play it.’
Lokesh agreed. I know, he could not deny, as I was his good friend.
Now you don’t judge me as a rowdy or some thing like that. I’m just straightforward. That’s it.
I moved from the spot after few seconds. After my departure they started to play the song again.
Accidentally that day because of that incident I heard a song, which was sung by his own voice and I saw a picture, on the audio cover, of a person called Vikram! But Dinesh and I were busy discussing about Priyatam!
